THESE WEEKS IN BOONSBORO HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA 11/02-11/11/2011
Did I mention how busy we have been? I won’t bore you with those details then. I’ll just get right to the news. Foremost, last night we had a successful production of “The Bear”, and I uploaded some pictures for you to view. Congratulations to the cast and crew, and I would like to publically recognize both Drama classes for contributing to the mad rush associated with pulling this off. I really want to thank all of the art folks for making the interior of the set look like an interior of a home. Great work everyone.
Now…let’s look at the past, present, and future….
DRAMA I: Well, these young folks have been thrown into the production fire the past few weeks. We have casted “Break a Leg”, we have started the committee work for it, and believe it or not, we have completely blocked the play. Now, it’s time for the hard part. We have to start acting. We’ll see how that goes. So far, we’ve done pretty well. Let’s see what your future holds.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: These were very tough days on the class as the second half of the class started. As I told them when we started, their Windows knowledge was practically non-existent. Thus, we have spend nearly a full week gaining a much stronger understanding of BIOS, Windows and how to tweak a computer to do what you want. By the end of the week, some of our folks were using REGEDIT to make changes to the computer. That’s a major upgrade!
This was followed by our opening instruction on digital audio. Next week, we will complete the analog to digital captures and edits. Then, we will complete the audio replacement project by Thanksgiving. Our video portion of the class will follow that. Cords are also on our horizon.
DRAMA III: It has been busy and a bit nerve-wracking couple of weeks. After starting all of the production work for “The Bear”, and “Break a Leg”, we were faced with the problem of how to work on both. We decided to build the set for “The Bear” so that it would function for “Break a Leg” as well. Then, there was a moment or two where we thought “The Bear” wouldn’t go forward. In other words, we have been productive, but it has been a bit tough and stressful. Thankfully, “The Bear” went forward and now we can move forward as well. Thanks to everyone for being flexible. It really helped.
MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CONCERNS:
1. Foremost, I want to extend “Break a Leg” Rehearsals until 6:00. I’m going to ask Susary to contact everyone due to rehearse on Monday about that by tomorrow evening. HOWEVER, YOU CAN MAKE HER LIFE SO MUCH EASIER BY CONFIRMING THAT ON FACEBOOK OR THE BLOG. We need additional rehearsal time.
2. Our program for “Break a Leg” needs to be finished by Wednesday. I am HIGHLY concerned about meeting that deadline. Can the folks in charge of that verify that they are aware of that, and it will occur????
3. The set for “Break a Leg” is a bit more complex than you know. I need to explain that my construction folks on Monday. However, remember, next Saturday is a building day. It will contain some acting time as well.
4. We need to design the lighting for “Break a Leg” immediately. I am looking for individuals who ABSOLUTELY want to tackle that challenge.
5. I also need to determine who will be in charge of sound, and we need to begin the search for the necessary sounds/music.
6. I think we’re OK in costumes and makeup right now, but I would feel much better if someone could confirm that.
7. We need to start and finish the signs for the road in one week. That’s quite possible right? Sikes is scheduled to finish the graphic over the weekend.
8. I know that props are in process, but I’m not sure where we are with that. Someone will need to confirm this information on Monday.
9. I would very much like to know who will be photographing and recording this production well in advance. This is something we just don’t seem to discuss until it is upon us. I believe Evan would like to do the video portion.
10. I am still missing some minor parts in this play. If you have been casted, lost your part, and you want something else, let me know as soon as possible. Otherwise, I’ll start giving individuals double parts.
I’m sure I’m forgetting a multitude of things, but these are all of the current ones that are keeping me from sleeping restfully or for any length of time. We have to push very hard to get this done, and we can do that. Why don’t we?
MjB
P.S. Remember, your lines are due on Monday. We are on a “No Mercy” rule for this production. Know your lines, or I must remove you from the process. Don’t let that happen.
