Auditions are Monday

First of all, read the previous post for further details. I have some clarifications in this post. Foremost, the audition speeches MUST be memorized. They are as follows:

1. Senator Chilton--monster speech on page 39

2. Senator Goring--page 41 starting with "That will do..." and page 53 starting with "With you..."

3. Mrs. Chevellie--page 16, the monster speech

4. Mrs. Chilton--NOTE!!!! THERE ARE THREE SPEECHES. The first begins at the bottom of page 38 with "Don't come near me", and the second is on page 39 begins with "No, don't speak!" THEN, the last speech is on page 70, starting with "It wasnyour own wife..."

If you have any questions of any kind, post them for everyone to see. Deal?

Brittany,

I was just going to answer your e-mail now. I went to the soccer game to see Laura. Poor kid. She played her heart out. Anyway, yes, of course you may audition. I missed you today.

I was already thinking about the techincal aspect of the play. I would really like to have a tech meeting very soon, because I'm not sure where we are going with scenes and costumes and would like to have some sort benchmark on how detailed we are going to get. This is a turn of the century play, correct, so I think getting all of the stuff for a relatively eleborate set should start soon as possible, plus I would like to get a head start on costumes, considering the hats we would need to aquire/make. Props don't seem to be much of an issue during this play, so I'm not worried about that. Lights don't seem very complicated for this play either, except for the whole candlelight thing, but we could perhaps talk about this during the meeting? If you want me to audition, I will, but I'd much rather do tech, again (perhaps as a producer? I would really like that chance to be a leader)or Stage Manager. Sorry I'm thinking about tech so early, but I think this is an interesting play and I want to do it justice not only in acting, but in set and design as well.

Katie,

We should probably decide who is doing tech before we decide the rest of that. I like your ambition. Audition.

Mr. Bair, I don't remember if I mentioned it to your before, but I'd love to try my hand at costumes for this play. haha...I've told you the two or three other things I'd like to do too...(:-D) but anyway, is anyone else dead set on doing costumes?

Sorry to be an indian giver of my previous statement of auditioning, but id REALLY much rather do something tech wise this time around. I wanted to the last play, but a Tony was needed, so i went ahead with it (Im not complaining, not at all, just stating it). If you get other spots filled before using me, id really like to do more with building and such this time around. Then again, you're only requesting auditions for principle parts (something i dont think im ready for), therefore i wouldnt be needed for auditions technically anyway...

If you have an opinion on this Mr. Bair, please state what you think you see me doing better with. Another opinion would help me greatly with a decision.

Thanks Cheyenne. Kyle...it's your call. I kind of thought you made a good Senator Caversham. You don't need to audition for that, and your rehearsal time would be much more limited with that character. However, it's your call.

Well in that case, it doesnt seem worth the trouble of trying to get a ride for only a couple minutes after school for a part not too explosive.

Now for the building side of things. Not that now is really the time to bring it up yet (or maybe it is, I dont know if youve thought about it this early yet), but how much building are we talking about for this set. If its not a huge amount, ill probably be up for a non-principle part, otherwise...ah heck id still probably do it. Sorry if im being a hassle, just trying to come to a conclusion in my head.

12:15 AM
Blogger Mr. Bair said...

Well remember...it's hard to come to a conclusion in any other body part.

P.S. As I told Katie, let's put the horse in front of the cart.

12:29 AM
Blogger Kyle said...

True true...alright then. Ill go ahead and say im open for a non-principle part if wanted, and would like to help with building as well whether i act or not. Thanks for the assistance for...yknow...my head...

Mr.Bair,

Who is producing our play anyway? Also, I have a suggestion for a new sort of leadership role, Stage Manager, I'm going to be brief in describing what a Stage Manager would do at Boonsboro High, because if you possibly want to consider such a job, then we could talk more in depth on Monday.

A Stage Manager would be a general organizer of all things technical in theatre. Similar to a producer, only more involved. A good Stage Manager would know how to work the sound and light board, know the basics of the prop/costume room, understand basic set design and construction, and have good people skills. The Stage Manager would be a sort of link between the director and the techies. He/She would receive directions/suggestions/guidelines from the director and give them to the proper techie, plus they would help out anyone in tech, give jobs to people (finding stage crew, sound board operator). I think this job is useful as it would be purely techincal theatre, so they could soley concentrate on any problems/concerns with anything that could arise during rehearsal or showtime.

That is my short description of a Stage Manager and their duties, if you are remotely interested in my idea, I will be more then happy to talk to you on Monday or write you an email with more detail.

Thanks for reading
~Katie

Mr. Bair, may I try to redeem myself as a producer? (Did I use "myself" correctly?)

8:00 AM
Blogger Mr. Bair said...

Katie,

I am the stage manager at Boonsboro High School. It is a paid position by the BOE. Are you suggesting a student version? Miss Holder, I am not opposed to you producing, but I need an open application in case others want to produce. Your use of "myself" was perfect.

I wouldn't mind trying my hand at producing, but Im not in the class so it might be a tad difficult.

From what I understand of Lady Chilton's first two speeches, the portrayed emotion should something of a balance between anger, sadness, disappointment and disgust. Two questions: (1) Is this an accurate observation? and (2) Is the balance generally equal, or are there times when one [or more] emotion[s] is [are] more prominent?

Thanks so much!
Britt

Cool beans. An open application would contain information of what persuasion?

yes...how do we go about applying for the producer position?

Yes, Mr.Bair, I am suggesting a student version. I would like to try my hand at producing as well if you aren't going to consider a student Stage Manager.

since everyone seems to be declaring what they want to do, I'd like to say that I'm willing to fight for the part of indetured servant if I'm not onstage. Also, is there anyone left who would like to do publicity? I know I like to do it, but I don't know who even knows how, or who was on the committee last year.

Blogger Devon said...

Just a small note to Katie and anyone else,

We have had stage managers before, Joe Clemens was a great stage manager. You may want to consider a different name for the said position because stage manager in the past has been the STAGE manager, the person that heads the stage crew and many times props. You also may want to take into consideration the fact that people in lighting, (I'm only saying this from experience) prefer to go directly to Mr. Bair, not through someone who may or may not get the correct message to him. Many things can be lost in translation. I agree that yes your idea is great and has many good parts, for some tech areas it's adding another step kind of like telephone. So you may want to limit what the "stage manager" controls. Thank you for your time.

It was written over 100 years ago. That's a factor. It's a speech given by someone well-spoken, but conniving. She's playing with her food before she eats it.

However, I really don't want to audition, so many talanted people who obviously know there stuff are trying out, and I, well, I'm just lost in the shuffle. That's why I like props so much, it's impossible for me to be lost in the shuffle because I'm the only one who seems like the prop room and all of it's containings. Oh and Mandy, after Mr.Bair gives us the okay, maybe we can work together on some costume ideas.
